10 Days of Live Jazz in PEC

Prince Edward County will be home to 10 days of live Jazz music beginning Friday, as the PEC Jazz Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary. The 10 day celebration of music will see live acts performing around the county with headlining artists taking the stage at the Regent Theatre in Picton.

This year’s  headline act will be Pianist Ellis Marsalis, performing on August 19th at the Regent Theatre. llis Marsalis is regarded by many as the premier modern jazz pianist in New Orleans. He is currently developing his own recording label, ELM Records, with his wife Dolores and son Jason.

We are extremely excited to able to present Ellis Marsalis as one of our headline performers this year. Ellis is a wonderful pianist and a true jazz master who helped to spearhead the jazz revival in New Orleans during the early 1960s. — Brian Barlow, Creative Director with the Prince Edward County Jazz

This festival will also feature some strong Canadian talent as Lorraine Desmarais will be returning to the festival for the second year in a row. An accomplished pianist, Desmarais’ talents have been praised by the Jazz community. In 2002, she received the Oscar-Peterson award, which was presented to her at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. Two years later, she was the recipient of the Prix à la création artistique from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.

Other major acts at this summer’s festival include Guido Basso, Russ Little, Ranee Lee, Luanda Jones, Mark Eisenman, Brian Barlow and Chase Sanborn among others.
